In a land over crowded with talent like Chicago, how do you separate yourself from the pack? That is the monumental task any Windy City MC will face while on the come up. The cities airwaves have been dominated by trap and drill since 2013 with many believing that is “Chicago’s Sound.” In 2016 we are seeing experimental artist’s like Chance The Rapper and Savemoney, Mick Jenkins, Alex Wiley, Supa Bwe, Saba along with others shifting the culture and pioneering a new sound. These artists have made way for MC’s like 24 year old Chicago native Bando Brando who is also trying to curate a new, unique sound, form his own lane and ultimately not conform to the trends being picked up by the radio. Earlier this year, Brando featured on a track with Lil Italy and Monster Mike, posted by FakeShoreDrive creating a buzz around the Chicagoland area for the talented wordsmith.
Bando’s young Soundcloud catalog has gone through a complete re-branding phase with only one track,”‘Ol Dawg,” making the cut. The track is a fun, bouncy summer-time anthem produced by l-i-n-u-s and features fellow Chicagoan, Kun from A Billion Young. Although the track’s bouncy on the outside, it’s filled with wise words regarding trust, fake people, loyalty, and turning an L into something positive. Everyone can bounce back.
