Praise the day for new Chance the Rapper! Kind of. After teaming up with fellow Chicago native Saba to release the single, “Angels,” in October of last year on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the duo finally put out a music video for the warmly-received track.
Acting as an ode to the Windy City, Chance delivers braggadocio verses while flying through the air via CGI comparable to that of Action Bronson in “Actin’ Crazy” (albeit a bit light on the visually “crazy” element of Bronson). It’s oddly fitting, with Chance currently sitting atop the culturally vibrant city that he alludes to Superman in this uplifting yet boastful song.
Got the industry in disbelief. They be askin’ for beef.
Adding to the absurdly catchy hook that Saba delivers, “Angels” continues certain thematic elements that we have grown accustomed to with Chance; such as positivity, choreography on point, gospel-backing vocals and the works.
As we anxiously await Chance’s third solo project he continues to drop quality music, visuals, and collaborations that keep fans hungrily anticipating the independent artist’s next step in his career.
