Last week was the 25th anniversary of De La Soul‘s classic sophomore album De La Soul is Dead and the three emcees from Long Island, New York are anything but gone. Today, the trio announced a release date of August 26th for their newest album, and the Anonymous Nobody.

The project stems from the second most funded music project on Kickstarter in which 11,169 backers pledged $600,874 to finance the creation of the album. The rewards given to pledges include autographed memorabilia, dinner with De La Soul, VIP access to a show, and much more.
De La Soul has quietly built a career spanning over the past three decades by bringing alternative hip hop to the forefront of the industry and also co-founding The Native Tongues. Consisting of Posdnuos (Plug One), Trugoy (Plug Two), and Maseo (Plug Three), De La Soul pioneered a counterculture hippie sound. and the Anonymous Nobody will be the group’s first studio album in eleven whole years. It arrives on the heels of their most recently released EP, For Your Pain & Suffering. As an apology to fans for a delay in the album, De La Soul dropped the EP last month in surprise.
Gaining fame from extensive sampling, the trio plans to sample their own music on and the Anonymous Nobody for the first time. The track-list reveals 17 songs featuring the likes of Jill Scott, Damon Albarn, 2Chainz, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Pete Rock, Roc Marciano, and several more.
