Drake Explores the Dark and Light with “Pop Style” and “One Dance”

Drake has been quiet since dropping “Summer Sixteen” earlier this month, that is, until now. This morning the Six God blessed our ears with not one, but two new singles, “Pop Style” and “One Dance.” The two songs couldn’t be more different nor more perfect.

“Pop Style” is reminiscent of Big Sean’s “Blessed,” as the dark base and synths create an ominous tone. Oh, and it has a Kanye feature. Billed as The Throne, Kanye and Jay-Z help Drake “rock your body” along with Charlie Heat on the production, signaled by the ‘perfect’ tag. Jay’s verse consists of two disappointing lines, but Kanye brings the heat, ending his verse with a vicious flow. Drake isn’t to be forgotten either, using his signature sing-rap style to flow smoothly over the track. This is Views material, and it is excellent.

Drake then switches it up with the heavily EDM influenced “One Dance”, featuring Wizkid and Kyla. This song comes at the perfect time season-wise, as the beat is sure to help the sun break through the clouds and shine down on these glorious Spring days. Drake flexes his pipes on the track, crooning over the heavy drums with a fluidity only he possesses. Kyla, a Filipino R&B singer for those that are unfamiliar, hits the hook perfectly, while Wizkid is more of a background sound, belting out a muted verse in a way only he can, a-la Major Lazer. Both features compliment the EDM elements extremely well, showing Drake’s talents as a curator of sound. Mark my words, this song is going to be inescapable for the foreseeable future.

Both songs are available on iTunes and the links can be found below. These are most likely the last singles to be released before Views from the Six, which is slated to drop this month. We’ll keep you updated here at True Too, but for now, bump these songs ASAP.
