Izzy Strange teams up with Mick Jenkins for No One But Me

Pennsylvania has brought some great things into this world. For one, Hershey and their delicious chocolate. Second, the first daily newspaper was published in Philadelphia which changed the journalism game for people like us at True Too. But why bore you with a list; trust us, it’s definitely a historical state. As far as rap treasures go, you got the likes of Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller from Pittsburgh, The Roots, Will Smith and Cassidy from Philly; and now, around 50 miles from the Burgh in a town called Scottdale, we have the young Izzy Strange making a name for himself.

On his latest single, and the last from his A Good Day 2 B The Bad Guy project, Izzy is definitely making a statement. “No One But Me” precedes Izzy’s debut album and man he picked a good one to save for last. Teaming up with Chicago artist Mick Jenkins alone shows the promise Izzy has in his ability, but the track also features production from Nate Fox of The Social Experiment whom he’s worked with in the past. In the Soundcloud description for “No One But Me,” Izzy writes: “This song is a laid back jam to bring in the summer motivation. A reminder that the only person that can change your situation is you.” As seasons change and move on, so does life. Izzy’s timing on this one couldn’t have been better.

There’s a certain melancholic-positivity going on here. “No One But Me” is about making your own luck and doing what you need to. With the jazzy production this track feels like a gem pulled out of the hip-hop archives of old. With this type of talent and respect from peers like Jenkins, it would be wise to keep an eye out for Izzy the rest of the year. His album A Good Day 2 B The Bad Guy is set to drop around June. Take a listen to the track below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
