June Singles Roundup Playlist

Summer is here and so are the summertime singles! After giving you a playlist of our favorite Summertime hits, we are back with the June Singles Roundup Playlist. In the past month we have received a lot of great thing around the global hip hop scene. First Vic Mensa finally broke his silence with shouts of freedom. He released his first project under his new deal with Roc nation entitled There’s A lot Going On. With themes of a political revolution and free thought, Vic capitalized on the momentum from the EP by releasing a single called “Free Love” featuring Le1f, Halsey, Lil B and Malik Yusef. The Based God and Vic are a great duo so lets hope that we get another collaboration on Mensa’s upcoming album rumored to be released this year.

In June we also got XXL’s freshman 2016 class. Like every year there were a few people that we were happy to see like Anderson .paak but also a few names that were unfairly left off. Mick Jenkins is one of those names but that did not stop him from releasing new music. Mick landed on this Roundup Playlist with his new track “Sunkissed” featuring theMIND who also just dropped his debut mixtape. Mick has said that we should be expecting his freshman album next month. One 2016 XXL freshman did make the playlist however, young rapper Lil Uzi Vert with his slow-jam single “Stole Your Luv++”.

June also held the 2016 NBA Finals. After an intense series with the Warriors, the Portland Trail Blazers were defeated. However, the loss didn’t stop amateur rapper and professional point guard Damian Lillard from dropping another banger. Rapping over Mobb Deep‘s “Shook Ones”, this track shows that Lillard can go hard in the paint and on the mic. One of my personal biggest moments of June was Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino finally breaking his silence on social media, tweeting a link to an app with a countdown. It was a little disappointing that the countdown just announced a weekend festival in Joshua Tree, CA however DG will be preforming his new album which is exciting. Fellow ROYALTY member and brother, Steve G. Lover lll dropped a new tape this past month titled Rich Black American presented by DJ Rhetorik. The tape features names like Kari Faux, Swank and Bino so Hopefully this mean we can expect more new music from the ROYALTY team soon.
