LIL UZI VERT DROPS THE PERFECT LUV TAPE

Self-proclaimed Rockstar Lil Uzi Vert just dropped a new mixtape to celebrate his birthday and it may just be his best project to date. Since being selected as an XXL Freshman earlier this year, The Perfect Luv Tape is the perfect sequel to his breakthrough mixtape Lil Uzi Vert Vs. The World, announcing him to the world as one of the most exciting young rappers out at the moment. Whilst definitely being influenced by current Atlanta rappers such as Future, Young Thug, and Lil Yachty; Lil Uzi Vert stands out by putting together a more cohesive project than any of these artists.

The Perfect Luv Tape features 10 heavy electronic trap beats with a Future verse and production from Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, and Don Cannon. The tape is largely influenced by Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreaks as Lil Uzi Vert uses autotune to melodically rap about his current success and relationships with women, fusing this with the traditional themes in trap music such as his drug use and flashy lifestyle.

Say my rhymes cause of Yeezy

Remember life wasn’t easy

Remember girls didn’t need me

Now they beggin’ just to meet me

The tape starts with “Do What I Want,” a feel good trap song talking about his newfound success and the freedom this has given him. Vert proceeds into a darker section before switching it up at the halfway point on more experimental, happier trap beats; which may symbolize the pain of relationships before the happiness that comes with realisation of it ending. With the mixtape cover heavily alluding to the film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, it definitely feels like it has a theme of ups and downs similar to what Michael Cera experiences throughout the movie.

The surprise mixtape definitely surpasses expectations and should be a must for any fans of the New-Wave Hip-Hop scene. Lil Uzi Vert portrays a clear concept through 10 fantastic songs, heavily influenced by both Kanye West and the film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. Unfortunately, the main downfall is the lack of a standout song that would be able to reach the heights of “Money Longer’s” 50 million Soundcloud plays which is so frequent in the sub-genre.
