It’s the morning after President Obama’s final State of the Union, an almost fitting time for Freddie Gibbs to deliver “Dead Presidents Freestyle.” Fresh off the heels of the recent Shadow of a Doubt, this 4 minute freestyle puts Gangsta Gibbs lyrical and technical talent on display. Delivered in his signature hard-hitting baritone, Gibbs switches back and forth between various flows and topics. The production, done by Sid “Speakerbomb” Miller according to Soundcloud, is typical Gibbs fare save for the light touch of almost harp-ish synth that turns into an incredible flowing piano. The heat doesn’t stop there. “Hot Boy” is a second track dropped by Gibbs today. Produced by Dupri of League of Starz, the hard-hitting hi-hats and eerie backing sample are the perfect backdrop for this drug-themed banger. Freddie revisits his roots as a former kingpin and raps of various operations and “business ventures” he was involved in. “Hot Boy” sounds like something that definitely could have been leftover from Shadow, but regardless, we’re glad to have it now.
