Frank Ocean recently came out of hiding to surprise us on the album version of Kanye’s “Wolves” off of The Life of Pablo, shocking fans everywhere after breaking his promise to drop a new album last year. In similar fashion, Jay Electronica has risen out of obscurity to drop the electrifying new track “The Curse of Mayweather” seemingly out of nowhere. The song is a bona fide banger, brought to life by an invigorating drum line and an allusion to A Tribe Called Quest’s classic “Can I Kick It.” Jay Electronica’s bars are on point as well with unmatched lyricism and aggression to match the production:
This is blasphemy James, this is blasphemy/ I gave that little cockroach life and he blasted me/ Niggas made all those memes, and they laughed at me/ This is World War Three motherfucker, the catastrophe
And that’s just one example of his flow on this track. Jay Elec is back ladies and gentleman, and he’s here to let us all know. But will he finally release his long awaited album or will he slip back into whatever hip hop lair he’s been hiding in? Stay tuned to True Too for all the latest news and stream the new song below.
