South London wordsmith Loyle Carner has been building a lot of hype lately. He recently signed a deal with AMF records and today Carner released debut single “Florence’/‘Tierney Terrace.” Tierney Terrace is named after a place where his nan and grandad lived, and is essentially an ode to all the time and effort they put into raising him. We are used to the honest and vulnerable side of Carner who commonly references his family issues and personal life in his songs. “Florence” adds a different layer to that thought. We witness a lonley brother who wishes that he had a little sister to take care of, make pancakes for and learn special handshakes with. Fellow Londoner Kwes provides soft chords that make the soulful chorus.
“She could be my little freckle-faced fidgeter / me but miniature, sleeping on the sofa til she tackles and I tickle her“
