Proudly repping Arizona, the up-and-coming emcee MastodonRare just hit another track out of the park just weeks before his debut project Apotheosis is due to drop. On his new single “Grand Slam,” with production from Taz Taylor, Mastodon teams up with fellow AZ artists DZE and Turo Sivirian to create the perfect end-of-summer jam.
“Grand Slam” mixes together every good element that is popular in the rap game right now. Starting from the quiet yet melodic vocals of Mastodon humming the pre-chorus “All we wanted to do is kick rhymes like Van Damme”. The beat then drops into rhythmic 808 drums bouncing under smooth vocals. As the verses move onto the other artists you can instantly feel the chemistry between these emcees. If Arizona is gonna be put onto the map it will probably be due to these guys.

MastodonRare was first put on our radar a few months back but after a few great singles he has the True Too team very hype for a new project. The young rapper has been very busy lately, releasing a few tracks in the past weeks in preparation for his first full-length project. Apotheosis is set to drop on September 30th and Mastodon has already released four tracks from the project. His most recent single “The Revenant Introduction” ended up on our new August Singles Roundup Playlist. After gaining the attention of hip hop fans across the web the Glendale native is looking for more. He is working hard to push the local Arizona rap scene to a global audience. As seen in the tweet above there are plenty of dope artists in the state of Arizona that are ready to blow up.
