It is that time of the year when we start getting less singles and start getting more full length projects. That trend is reflected in our new May Singles Roundup Playlist, which only contains 12 songs to make the cut. Even though some of our monthly roundup playlists earlier in the year contained three times as many tracks like in January, this month contains a short but sweet playlist. As our favorite artists hold the good singles for their albums, there are a few names that dropped impressive projects this past month. In May, we got new projects from Post Malone, Death Grips, and Chance The Rapper. A track that was meant for Chano’s Coloring Book featuring Mick Jenkins and Alex Wiley made it on the playlist despite its unofficial release. The Social Experiment didn’t stop with Coloring Book. In celebration of the one-year anniversary of Surf, Donnie Trumpet released a track titled “The First Time.” featuring Chance and familiar names like James Blake, Nate Fox, and Cam O’bi.
One of the most exciting things to happen last month was the release of Gucci Mane from prison. Gucci is finally free and he took no time before getting back into the studio. Less than a day after his release, Gucci posted “FIRST DAY OUT THA FEDS” on his newly made Soundcloud account. I would not be surprised if we get a mixtape from Guwop soon. The TDE team has been working hard lately and appears twice on the playlist this month with first appearance by the newest member, Skiiwalker and his track “Speed.” SZA has her female spins on PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “Come and See Me” with Erykah Badu remixing the track. In recent news of SchoolBoy Q‘s album coming soon, we should also be ready for projects from TDE making a heavy impact in 2016.
