In a year when Madlib has already blessed us with the short-but-sweet Trouble Knows Me collaboration with Future Islands’ Sam Herring, today he announced that he will be dropping an album with regular collaborator MED as well as Blu. This is not the first time the three artists have collaborated, as they also dropped the Burgundy EP in 2013. Trouble Knows Me will feature appearances from MF DOOM, Aloe Blacc, Dam Funk, Mayer Hawthorne, Anderson Paak, and Hodgy Beats.
Disappointed Madlib fans anxiously awaiting Madvillainy 2 get a consolation prize in the form of the record’s first single, “Knock Knock (feat. MF DOOM),” which accompanied the announcement of the album. The single shows promise, with Madlib orchestrating a groovy beat of watery guitars, dusty drums, and dirty bass lines. DOOM’s presence on the track, limited to the first verse of three, is understated and unceremonious.
Bad Neighbor comes out on October 30th in CD and digital formats, and orders for vinyl will begin shipping on December 1st. Pre-order it here and stream “Knock Knock” below.
