At the dawn of July we begin to ask ourselves; has there been one definitive song of the summer yet? Yes, Summer ’16 has definitely been filled with smashes that are in contention for just that. From Drake’s “One Dance,” Travis $cott and Young Thug’s “Pick Up The Phone,” and Chance the Rapper’s “No Problem,” there are plenty to choose from but none that deserve the crown. Throw in another track in competition for the thrown with Zip K‘s “Tempo.” Zip has been making big moves the past year, opening for G-Eazy and A$AP Ferg on their When It’s Dark Out tour, being a performer at Raury’s Raurfest, and headlining the Paradise concert in New Orleans alongside XXL Freshman Lil Uzi Vert.
Dropping today on the 4th is “Tempo,” a slow track compared to the previously mentioned summer smashes. That doesn’t hinder the sheer excellence of it. Zip murders the hook and brings it back to life again as the Georgia artist croons over the wavy beat. When the track starts, your mind takes you to a place where you and your crew are all kickin’ back with a couple of cold ones, or riding around through the city vibing with your people. “Tempo” is the perfect beachside jam. Produced by L3NO, the instrumental contains a late 90’s or early 2000’s vibe to it, making us millennials nostalgic for times when Summer was simpler; no job, no worries, just fun.
Bitches digging on my tempo
