Social media was set alight last week with the news that UK grime artist Skepta was sat on the corner of Houston and Broadway all the way over in New York City, giving out signed copies of his new mixtape. Lucky Bastards.
Anyway, one day later this new mixtape is on Soundcloud so it can be enjoyed by us non New-Yorkers. Entitled The Tim Westwood Mix, the tape contains 19 songs, a mixture of old and new cuts. Despite including huge hits such as ‘Shutdown’ and ‘That’s Not Me’, Skepta premieres new material, most significantly ‘Top Boy’ and the full version of ‘Good Times’, which now includes a Frisco verse.
Skepta has revelled in a gigantic wave of recent hype on the back of several cosigns from Drake and his role in one of the craziest Radio 1XTRA grime takeovers ever, but seems to be taking his sweet time with regards to his upcoming album, Konnichiwa. While this new mixtape will be enough to mull fans over for a while, we’ve been thirsting for Konnichiwa out here in the UK for some time. For news listeners though, we at TrueToo do recommend this tape for virgin ears, as it contains many of Skepta’s best songs.
Listen to The Tim Westwood Mixtape down below, and stay tuned in the coming days for a much more comprehensive guide on all the UK artists you should be following, including Skepta.
