It’s been almost ten years since the prolific boom-bap legend J Dilla has passed, yet his legacy continues to live on in the timelessness of his craftsmanship, influencing artists like Flying Lotus, Kanye West, and many others. Dillatronic, a collection of 41 unreleased instrumentals from the late beatsmith, is available for streaming exclusively via Pitchfork.
While the beats on this release are officially unreleased, hardcore fans of Dilla might recognize some of them. For instance, Jay Electronica used “34” on “Bitches & Drugs,” while others can be found on various Dilla beat tapes that have surfaced over the years. Regardless, more Dilla is always welcome.
