Southern rapper Ludacris released his lead single “Area Codes” through Disturbing Tha Peace Records & Def Jam Recordings in 2001. “Area Codes” was produced by Jazze Pha and featured the late great Nate Dogg on the hook. “Area Codes” was from Ludacris’ Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum selling third album “Word Of Mouf”. It was also featured in Rush Hour 2 and the original Fast & Furious.
The song denotes the telephone area codes in which Ludacris has hoes in, including 43 different area codes from Washington D.C. (202) all the way to Hawaii (808). According to WikiPedia, because telephone area codes are increasingly becoming less constrained to particular geographic areas, scholars and cultural critics have noted that “Area Codes” may be incomprehensible to future generations of listeners. The song peaked at 7 on the U.S. Billboard Rap Songs Chart and 24 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
