American rapper Stalley released his debut album Ohio through Maybach Music Group in 2014. The 32 year old Muslim rapper was born in Massillon, Ohio in 1982 and had began producing mixtapes in 2008. In 2010 Stalley inked a deal with Rick Ross‘s Maybach Music Group.
Ohio features production from Rashad Thomas, Noel, David Doman and Black Diamond. It also features outside vocals from Nipsey Hussle, Rick Ross, August Alsina, Ty Dolla Sign, Rashad and De La Soul.
Despite the typical Maybach elements of driving nice cars, having hoes and money, Stalley portrays his softer side with “One More Shot.”
In addition, Stalley hoped to portray the cultural significance of his largely unnoticed home state of Ohio. The self-labelled “truck music” was a depiction of his state and his life, as Stalley incorporated his personal story and life experiences into the album.
Ohio debuted at #35 on the U.S. Billboard Charts and peaked at #5 on the U.S. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart list. It received favorable critical reviews, and the rapper exceeded most expectations of his debut project.
