Today in Hip Hop History: August 15, 2006

Detroit-based rapper Obie Trice released his second studio album, Second Round’s on Me, through Eminem’s Shady Records in 2006. Second Round’s on Me was Obie’s second and final studio album under Shady Records. After over a year of delays, the album was finally released on August 15, 2006.

Second Round’s on Me was executively produced by Eminem with additional production from the likes of 9th WonderAkon, and Luis Resto, among a few others. The album contained features from Brick & LaceNate DoggTrey Songz50 Cent and others.

The first single from the album was “Snitch”, which featured Akon. Both Obie and Akon appear on the CBS series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation performing the song. The track “Wanna Know” appears on the HBO series Entourage, the TV series Friday Night Lights and also in the game Fight Night: Round 3.

The album peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200 and #5 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. It received favorable reviews from music critics, and remains as a solid project in Obie’s catalog to this day.
