Take a Look Around (1990)

July 24, 2015

Hip Hop artist Masta Ace released his debut solo studio album, Take a Look Around, through Cold Chillin’ Records in 1990. The solo album came during the Golden Age of hip hop, after he debuted on the classic hip hop crew cut “The Symphony” with the Juice Crew in 1988.

Take a Look Around was recorded in 1988-1990 and produced by Marley Marl and Mister Cee. It peaked at #38 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart in 1990.

The album also featured two hits, “Music Man” and “Me & the Biz,” a tribute to labelmate Biz Markie, in which Ace plays the role of both himself and Biz (who couldn’t make it to the studio for the actual collaboration he wanted). “Me And The Biz” was featured on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as a song in rotation on the radio station Playback FM.
