 Today in Hip Hop History: August 17, 2004

West Coast G-Funk hip hop group 213, consisting of Snoop DoggWarren G, and Nate Dogg (RIP) released their only studio album The Hard Way, through Snoops’ Doggystyle Records in 2004. The trio have been frequent collaborators since the early 90’s.

The album was produced by several different artists; including DJ PoohQuazedelicJ-HenKanye WestTerrace Martin, and Marlon Williams, among many others. It featured Dion Jenkins and an interlude excerpt from Dave Chappelle as Rick JamesThe Hard Way included two separate single releases: “So Fly” and “Groupie Love”.

The Hard Way peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart. It is RIAA certified Gold as of late 2004.
