The W  by Wu-Tang Clan

Today in hip-hop history marks the third studio album, The W, released fifteen years ago by the famously known Wu-Tang Clan, released with Loud Records.

The album was released during a time after several of the group members released solo albums themselves, and also features prominent rappers well known today including the likes of Nas, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, and Redman.

Receiving generally positive reviews, the album reached platinum within a month selling up to 1.1 million copies and debuting as number five on the Billboard 200.

The W received numerous accolades, attaining album of the year from multiple American publishers such as Spin, Rolling Stone, and The Village Voice.

While retaining the professional, gritty quality that Wu-Tang Clan is known for, The W falls short of being a masterpiece on a few levels from several tracks remaining inconsistent from the rest of the album, making The W grab short of what could be a cohesive whole.
